Demystifying the OSHWC Code, 2019, India’s Biggest Workplace Safety Reform India’s labour landscape is undergoing a historic transformation, and at the centre of this shift is the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (OSHWC) Code, 2019. By consolidating 13 different labour laws into a single, modern framework, the Code promises a more coherent, predictable and safety-focused regulatory environment for workers and employers alike. J the App by JustIDT we have prepared the Code’s core features, from expanded employer duties, sector-specific safety standards and streamlined compliance, to strengthened rights for workers and modernisation of inspection systems. We have also highlighted the critical gaps that remain in terms of enforcement challenges, high coverage thresholds, limited protection for informal and migrant workers, and the Code’s heavy reliance on delegated legislation with the hope that the same gets addressed before implementation.
