ITAT says Charity Registration Requires Evidence of Actual Charitable Activity

Vandematram Educational Trust claimed that its property was being used for educational purposes after being leased to another education trust. ITAT held that merely owning and leasing a school building does not establish that the applicant itself is running an educational institution. In the absence of evidence of its own educational activity, registration under Section 12A was rightly denied.
