HC Orders Time Bound Appeal Disposal

The Calcutta High Court has directed the Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) to consider and dispose of an assessee’s application for early hearing of a pending appeal within a prescribed timeline. 

The Court held that prolonged non-compliance with a Tribunal’s remand direction and continued pendency of an appeal undermine principles of natural justice and the right to speedy justice.
